27 year old recently out artist chronicling his adventures into the world of gay.

I wrote this letter and posted it on the Adventures in Gay facebook page a few days ago. It is not directly in reference to this previous strip, however is still applicable.

Well that last strips caused a bit of a stir huh… I really didn’t plan on addressing it however I felt there were some things I needed to clarify as there are some rather harsh assumptions and accusations being made (I would expect nothing less from you internet).

These strips, when strung together, encompass the last year and a half of my life, coming out, and everything this seemingly simple incident entails. As I embarked on this journey I found very quickly that ‘coming out’ is not one specific event, but a process, one of which I felt had never quite properly been explored or portrayed by mass media. I figured others must be going through similar things and decided I would document the process in it’s entirety; the highs the lows, the good and the bad.

It is a coming of age story, there is a beginning, a middle and end. Taking one strip and pulling it out context to examine the implications or suggestions being made is somewhat irrelevant given the nature of storytelling.

To put into perspective; Let’s say we were to take a single scene out of any film or television show. A scene which depicts any number of derogatory or hurtful dialogue/action. To view such a scene with no context it would be easy to accuse the writer/director of racism, sexism, etc. However when seen in the proper framework, such a scene would, hopefully, only support and ultimately enhance any sort of morally upright statement the creators are attempting to make.

With that said, I can only ask that you withhold judgment until a time and date when this story is close enough to complete that you can formulate properly an informed opinion on the strips and myself.

I would have hoped given the accumulated body of strips prior to this last one, people would be well aware of my take on life, which is quite simply, I don’t take it or myself too seriously, and I urge others to do the same. Life is so much easier when you laugh.

I am writing, drawing, and sharing these strips to reach out to others who may be going through similar things. To let other closeted or recently out people know they are not alone. I am intentionally approaching this serious subject matter with a light hearted voice in hopes of defusing and normalizing an event that can be so difficult for others.

To single out one strip, in doing so refusing to acknowledge the time and effort it takes to create these strips (let alone the willingness to share them), and accuse the creator of bigotry, sexism, or whatever you may have, is simply unfair and unwarranted. I am not going to censor myself through fear of offending some. If that were the case I wouldn’t be able to post any of these strips at all. There are, as I’m sure many of you are well aware, a large population of people on the planet who would be furious to see homosexuality discussed and even embraced so openly. These strips are a brutally honest look at the last year and a half of my life. If you are unable or unwilling to see the greater objectives here, there really isn’t anything I can do, and by all means you are free to unfollow the page.

For those here, please don’t fight, please don’t name call, and please don’t harass others for voicing their opinions…

Damn shit got real for a minute… I just want to say, despite a few minor hiccups over that last strip, this whole experience has been overwhelmingly positive! I want to thank all of you, the fans/followers/commenters/sharers for the continued support!

PS; all this talk of me “hating on bears” or “hating on femmes”… guys come on. I don’t hate anyone.
I’m just having fun, and pointing out things I find funny. I make fun of myself repeatedly in the strips… please don’t take me too seriously.

I love you all, I just don’t want to “make” love to you all, k? Thanks!
